Who I am
I’m Alison, a Freelance Copywriter and owner of MK Word Studio.
How I can help you
I can write words for your business. I’ve written copy and content for a number of industries including transport, education, recruitment, IT, accountancy, venues, holistic therapy and fitness.
I mainly offer website copy and blog content for small/medium businesses, but do get in touch if you have something else in mind (I’ve also written leaflets, guides, brochures, CVs, letters and elevator pitches).
If I can’t help you, I may be able to recommend someone who can.
How I work
MK Word Studio is a one-woman business. It’s just me and I work part-time from my second floor home office. As you can imagine, I have to manage my time carefully so my preferred way of working is remotely with communication via phone/email.
My motto is No drama. Life’s too short, right? It’s all about making life easier for you, but it’s a two way process. We’re in this together – working as a team to create the copy you want.

My background (& why I’m not a typical copywriter)
For many years, I worked as PA at Director level. The stories I could tell!
I also helped women returners learn keyboarding skills and write their CVs (long before I had a clue what being a woman returner was like).
And before I produced two little bald people, I held the ambiguous title of Comms Specialist in the corporate world. Reporting into the Internal Comms Manager, this role involved working in a small team to write intranet copy, annual reports and restructure announcements. I miss those days!
I’ve had a lifetime of working with a diverse range of peope, at all levels. And I firmly believe that, in this digital age, people count.
Don’t be tricked into thinking you just have to write only for search engines and algorithms. Keywords and search terms will help search engines find your site, but the reader is just as important. Maybe even more so. Controversial!
So, although it’s important to optimise your copy for SEO/findability, your copy will need to work hard for you to influence the human that searched for you in the first place. And that’s where I come in.
Training and Professional Development
When I decided to set up as a freelancer, I knew I had some work to do in terms of professional development. I was confident I could write but also recognised it would take more than natural writing ability to offer a credible copywriting service.
I’ll never stop learning. As well as continuing to devour blog content, podcasts, guides and books, I’ve also undertaken some formal training:

You’ll never hear me describe myself as an expert, but I’m doing everything I can to be one.
The human stuff
As well as being a forty something freelancer, I’m a wife and mum to two boys. My younger boy has autism and learning difficulties and attends a special school. Tough gig!
